The Aftermath

Synapses in unison

Asking loud, vexing questions

Screaming as one

For my undivided attention

Sleep, let me sleep

My unheeded direction

Soaked in the aftermath

Of a challenging session

Sugared blood, adrenaline

And frustration

Cells shrivelled

For want of hydration

Caught twixt distress

And elation

Hanging in the aftermath

And disturbed agitation

The murmur of sinew

In stretch and contraction

Driven by excessive

Cause and reaction

Finds body and soul overawed

By distraction

Battered by the aftermath

Of this conflicted attraction
